LASER, IPL & SKINCARE with Dr BENJI DHILLON

Dr Benji Dhillon says on the difference between ablative Laser, non-ablative Laser and IPL…
“Ablative means takes off a bit of the skin to help it heal into a better form of skin, non-ablative, it's not doing that, it's sending energy deeper down into the skin to create a controlled repair.
And then you've got IPL. Now, IPL is actually probably one of my favorite treatments. It stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and this is where it doesn’t use laser or light in the same way but uses broadband light—the light that we see—and it focuses it down to target different things in the skin. It can give beautiful results like brighter skin, and it can target pigmentation, redness, and can be used either alone or in conjunction with lasers.
We have such a wide variety of options that we can use for all kinds of skin types. I think maybe IPL and laser get branded with the same brush, but the treatments are quite different. They can either be quite mild or aggressive depending on what we’re trying to achieve. It's a bit like skincare—you can have good quality retinols and bad quality retinols, weak retinols and strong retinols. The same is true with lasers and IPLs. You can use the same type of laser or IPL on a very weak setting for someone's skin type, or you can dial it up—or tune it up, as I like to say—for a different type of skin. It also depends on the individual’s goals.
There are people with great skin already who have been looking after it with great skincare like AlumierMD, where you actually don’t need to go to too high a setting and can dial it down just to refresh the skin. But then there are some people who maybe haven’t looked after their skin, have significant sun damage, or have open pores where you may need to dial it up. So, it really is customizable."
CHEMICAL PEELS with Dr BIBI
for AlumierMD

Dr Bibi says following a chemical peel…
“The skin becomes a lot more hydrated, it develops a dewy glow, and it becomes more radiant. And then, bear in mind you're getting rid of the dead cells, so you're unclogging pores, which means that there's less oil, there's less breakouts, and the skin looks a lot clearer. But then also, because you're refining the texture and because you're improving that kind of base, it's more ready for skincare. So it's more ready to receive skincare, and the skincare not only can tackle the skin better, but it can actually penetrate better, so you get better results. Yeah, so there are some really amazing benefits that we see from chemical peels—plump, hydrated, dewy, glowing skin. And that's above and beyond anything that might be a little bit corrective in terms of the adjustment or targeting of specific skin conditions that you've mentioned, like breakouts and premature signs of ageing.”
